An injection-molded plastic kit of the Suzuki RG400 road motorcycle in its late form of 1986, in the blue and white color combination and with the lower cover of the fairing, in 1:12 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The RG400 belonged to the family of road replicas of racing machines that Suzuki built around a two-stroke four-cylinder in a square configuration. Against the ordinary road quarter-liters it was a markedly sharper machine: a light aluminum frame, a full fairing and the engine's characteristic pull at high revs. The late form of the mid-1980s differed from the early versions in details of the fairing and in the color combinations; the cover under the engine, which this package has in its name, closed off the bottom of the fairing and gave the machine the look of a racing replica.
A motorcycle is built differently from a car; it is not one shell but a chain of subassemblies that have to fit one another. Work from the frame: set the engine into it, and only then the front fork, the rear swingarm with its shock and finally the wheels. Paint the frame and the engine before you join them, because once they are together a brush will not reach a great many places. Paint the fairing and the tank separately and leave them right until the end: the division between blue and white is easier to mask on loose parts than on an assembled machine. Give the area under the decals a gloss varnish and seal the finished fairing at the end, so that the transitions do not show. The brake lines, cables and pedals are thin; cut them off the sprue with a sharp blade and clean them up with a sanding stick rather than with nippers.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
