1:24 Lapidus" McLaren MP4-12C #62 Blancpain 2012

Decals 1:24 McLaren MP4-12C, Lapidus colors, Blancpain 2012

This is a decal set in 1:24 scale from Studio27, meant for refinishing the McLaren MP4-12C into the racing livery with race number 62 from the 2012 Blancpain series. It is not a kit — the package holds only the decal sheet, and the model of the car has to be obtained separately. Check the exact scope of the sheet, and whether it holds carbon and Kevlar decals, on the packaging.

How to apply the decals

The set belongs among accessories for cars and Formula cars, and its result stands or falls with the preparation of the base. Proceed as follows:

• Let the paint on the body cure completely and polish it to a high gloss — on a matte surface a silvering veil forms under the decal.
• Cut the individual motifs out as close to the artwork as possible so that the carrier film is as small as it can be.
• Soak the sheet in warm water for only a few seconds and let the decal rest until it starts to release of its own accord.
• Move the motif into place with a brush, soak up the excess water with a paper tissue and settle it with a softener, which pulls the decal down to the shape of the body.
• Over the dried decals apply clear coat so that the edges of the film disappear and the surface stays uniform.

Who the set is for

It will be appreciated by builders of racing cars in 1:24 scale who want to build one particular car from an endurance series instead of the scheme from the box. Working with thin sheets calls for patience and a steady hand, so the set is aimed more at experienced modelers. Before buying, check that the kit you own matches the shape of the intended version of the car.

The package holds decals only. The kit, paints, clear coats and softener are not part of it.
