About product

Dual Exo 12A, Alien Green: an AK interactive acrylic paint

This bottle belongs among the AK interactive acrylic modeling paints. It has a satin, that is semi-gloss, finish and the shade is called Alien Green. The name gives only the color group, that is the green part of the spectrum; the particular tone is best checked against the manufacturer's color chart or on a test sample.

The paint is part of the numbered Dual Exo range, specifically number 12 in variant A. The range is built in pairs: under the same number the manufacturer also makes variant 12B, both as a separate bottle and as a dual set with both paints together. Here you are buying one bottle, variant A.

A satin, that is semi-gloss, finish

The degree of sheen matters as much on a modeling paint as the shade does. Satin is the middle way: the surface has a soft sheen, dust does not cling to the areas as much as it does on a deeply flat finish, and at the same time there is no mirror gloss, which looks unconvincing in a small scale. Light on satin shows the modeling legibly, which is appreciated by anyone who builds figures, science fiction and fantasy subjects or scenic accessories. You can tune the final look at any time with a varnish in the degree of sheen you choose.

How to work with the paint

  • Mix the bottle thoroughly before applying, as the pigment tends to settle at the bottom.
  • It is applied with a brush as well as an airbrush; choose the consistency and any thinner according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.
  • Several thin coats hold detail better than one thick one, which fills engraved lines and edges in.
  • On smooth plastic, resin and metal it pays to apply a base coat, that is a primer, first.
  • Before decals and before weathering, let the surface cure thoroughly, not just dry to the touch.

Who the paint is for

It will be reached for by modelers used to acrylic paints who want a satin finish without additional varnishing. It serves well on figures, fantasy and science fiction subjects and scenic objects; you will equally use it on a classic scale model as a base under further effects. The shade Alien Green is part of a numbered range, so it can be added to with other paints in the same family.

Store the paint firmly closed, dry and out of the reach of children. Work in a ventilated space and use protection for your airways when spraying. Follow the figures for volume, thinning, drying and safety given by the manufacturer on the packaging.

FAQ

The paint is satin, that is semi-gloss. The surface has a fine, muted sheen between flat and gloss. If you need a different look, unify the area at the end with a clear coat in the degree of sheen you choose.

The shade carries the name Alien Green. Compare the paint against the manufacturer's color chart or make a spray on a test sample, as the perception of a shade is also changed by the base and the lighting.

The thinner and the thinning ratio differ between individual ranges, and swapping a thinner can ruin a coat. Follow the manufacturer's detail on the packaging and try the ratio on a waste part.

Acrylic modeling paints are commonly applied both ways. A brush suits a thicker consistency and thin coats, whereas for an airbrush you will usually adjust the paint according to the manufacturer's recommendation.

No, they are two different paints with their own shade names, which only share the number of the range. This is one bottle, variant 12A. If you want both paints of the pair at once, the manufacturer also makes a dual set with the number 12.
