An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale under the Xtrakit brand. The Swift is among the subjects that are only rarely produced in a small scale, and it is therefore a rewarding addition to a collection of British postwar equipment. Check the contents of the package, the number of parts and the number of schemes on the box or in the instructions.
The Supermarine Swift was a British single-engine jet aircraft with a swept wing, which came about at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s as the successor to the successful line of fighters from the same design office. It did not prove itself as a fighter but found its place in the reconnaissance role: the FR.5 version had photographic reconnaissance equipment in a lengthened and chamfered forward fuselage and was meant for reconnaissance from low altitudes. Power came from a single Rolls-Royce Avon turbojet with an afterburner. FR.5 machines served with British units stationed in West Germany.
The lengthened nose with its camera windows is characteristic of this version; mask the windows and paint around them carefully so that they stay clean. Finish the cockpit before closing the fuselage, try the parts dry and fill and sand the seams at the wing root. Spray the classic British scheme with a dark upper camouflage and a light underside with an airbrush, keeping the transitions reasonably hard. Apply gloss varnish under the decals and finish the model with a matte or satin varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
