A set of kabuki tape masking elements in 1:48 scale for painting the exhaust nozzle of the F100 engine on a model of the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
Responsibility details are not available.
The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is an American single-engined multi-role fighter, and on a model the exhaust nozzle of the F100 engine is among the places that call for their own color treatment. Metallic and heat-discolored shades are sprayed differently from the rest of the airframe, and the transition from the nozzle to the tail fairing of the fuselage should stay sharp. That transition is exactly what this masking set handles.
These are pre-cut masking elements from kabuki tape, that is fine paper with an adhesive layer. The paper follows the rounded shapes of the nozzle well and leaves no adhesive residue on the paint when peeled off. The elements are lifted from the carrier sheet with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel. How many parts the set carries and exactly where they belong are given in the enclosed manufacturer's instructions.
Apply the masks before spraying, onto a clean, degreased and dry surface. Press the edges down with a toothpick so that paint cannot creep underneath. Spray in several thin coats; a heavy coat will build against the edge of the mask and break off when it is removed. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, pulling at an acute angle back over the surface rather than straight upwards.
A masking set is supplied. The model, paints and thinner are not included, unless stated otherwise.
