An injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier fighter Grumman F-14B Tomcat in 1:144 scale from Trumpeter. The model has finely engraved panel lines, a tandem cockpit and wings that can be built in the spread as well as the swept position. The box also contains pylons with guided air-to-air missiles. Despite the small scale it is a detailed model of a popular aircraft.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was an American two-seat carrier fighter with variable-sweep wings, intended to defend the carrier groups. The F-14B version received more powerful engines, which removed a number of the shortcomings of the original powerplant. The Tomcat became famous for its armament of long-range guided missiles and its ability to engage targets at great distances; later it took on a ground attack role as well.
Use thin cement for plastic and work in subassemblies. Finish the cockpit and the seats before closing the fuselage and think out the position of the wings. Apply primer before varnishing; the gray US Navy finishes come out best sprayed with an airbrush with soft transitions and a light wash into the engraved lines. Add the pylons and the armament only once the airframe is varnished, and mask the cockpit glazing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
