1:144 La-5 vacuum-formed canopy is a clear replacement part for a kit of the early version of the Lavochkin La-5 fighter that you have already bought, not a model. Thin drawn film replaces the thick part from the box.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory from Brengun for the Kovozavody Prostejov kit. It is not a kit. The canopy is drawn from thin clear film over a form, so the frames of the glazing look delicate and the material does not distort the view into the cockpit. On the early La-5 with its high fuselage spine the glazing is a different shape from the later F and FN versions, for which the manufacturer offers a separate item.
The Lavochkin La-5 was a Soviet fighter of mixed wood and metal construction with a radial engine. The early production form had a full fuselage spine behind the cockpit, which limited the view to the rear; it is exactly this shape that the canopy follows.
A vacuum-formed canopy is one-shot in the sense that a mistake in the trimming cannot be undone, so work in small steps. Mark the outline with a fine marker, trim with a margin and sand the rest down on fine paper laid on glass. If you fill the inside of the canopy with modeling putty before you start, the part is easier to hold and does not deform. The frames of the glazing are best masked with narrow strips of tape cut on glass, or with masking fluid applied with a pointed brush. It is glued with clear canopy cement. Finish the cockpit before fitting the canopy, as after gluing you can no longer reach inside.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
