The New Ware 1:144 Mask Spitfire FR Mk.XIV Bubbletop is a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a tiny model in 1:144 scale. The masks respect the shape of the bubble canopy and are cut for the parts of one specific Mark I Models kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A mask set for a model of a fighter in 1:144 scale. A model of this size fits in the palm of your hand and its glazing measures a few millimeters, so masking the frames with tape is work with a magnifier and an uncertain result. A pre-cut mask comes with its shape ready and is transferred into place with tweezers.
The Spitfire in the Mk.XIV version was powered by a Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, which against the earlier versions brought higher output and with it a longer nose and a five-blade propeller. The FR designation means the reconnaissance standard of a fighter, that is a machine fitted with photographic equipment. The Bubbletop epithet refers to the later standard with a cut-down rear fuselage spine and a bubble canopy, which improved the pilot's view to the rear.
A bubble canopy is rounded in two axes and has no flat surfaces for straight tape to lean on. The tape breaks up on the curve, forms creases and paint bleeds through them; keeping a constant frame width is also hard. A mask cut to the shape of the part gets around that problem, the resulting frame is symmetrical and the sprayed edge is sharp.
This is a mask set, not a model. Paints, glue and the plastic kit are not included in the package.
