About product

Mohawk IV and H-75A-7 Overseas Service in 1:144 scale from Mark I Models

An injection-molded plastic kit of the export versions of the American Curtiss Hawk 75 fighter in 1:144 scale from the Czech manufacturer Mark I Models. The boxing combines the British designation Mohawk IV with the export version H-75A-7 and is tied thematically to service outside Europe. Check the package contents and the number of marking schemes on the box.

The real subject

The Curtiss Hawk 75 was a single-engine all-metal low-wing fighter of the second half of the 1930s. The export versions differed from one another mainly in engine and armament, as some of the machines received a radial engine and others an inline one. The designation Mohawk was used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) for the machines it took over from French orders and from its own purchases, and it deployed them mainly outside the European theater. The H-75A-7 version was among the overseas export deliveries. By the time these aircraft were fighting, modern fighters had already overtaken them in performance, but thanks to good handling and undemanding operation they lasted in service surprisingly long.

Building and painting tips

A compact single-engine model goes together quickly in 1:144, and the snag tends to be elsewhere. The radial engine and the propeller are simplified at this scale and yet very visible, because they make up the whole front silhouette of the model. It pays to give them time: darken the engine cylinders with a very thin wash and bring out the tops with a dry brush, sand the propeller blades thin from the back and gently round the leading edge. Glue the propeller on at the very end, otherwise it will be in your way during varnishing. The leading edges of the wing can be discreetly suggested at a small scale with a thin line of a lighter shade, as heavy chipping would look unconvincing here.

Who the model is for

  • Anyone interested in export American fighters of the end of the 1930s
  • Modelers who want a less usual type among ordinary fighters
  • Collectors building a display case unified by 1:144 scale
  • Builders looking for a quicker project without losing appeal

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Mohawk IV is the British designation, and H-75A-7 comes from the manufacturer's export designation system. They are closely related versions of the same Curtiss Hawk 75 fighter.

The radial engine and the propeller. They make up the whole front silhouette of the model, so it pays to bring out the cylinders with a wash and a dry brush and to thin the propeller blades from the back.

The boxing is thematically focused on service overseas. Check the number of schemes and the package contents on the box.
