This is a set of self-adhesive masks from the Art Scale brand for a plastic model of the Fairchild Republic A-10C Thunderbolt II attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. The masks are supplied pre-cut, so there is no cutting of shapes out of masking tape, and they are stuck straight onto the clear part of the model. This set is the double-sided form, that is, according to the name, it allows for masking the glazing from both sides. An almost identical set for a kit from another maker is a separate item, so to put it plainly: this one is cut for the kit from Academy, so that you do not buy the other one.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American single-seat twin-engine attack aircraft meant to support ground troops. Its identifying features are the engines set high and far back, the twin vertical tail surfaces and the massive rotary cannon in the nose. The A-10C standard is an upgrade with digital avionics and a new cockpit fit. For a modeler it is precisely the cockpit that is interesting, because the canopy is large, heavily glazed, and its frames are clearly visible in the final impression a model makes.
First wash and degrease the glazing. Carry the mask over with tweezers, lay it down dry and press the edges with a toothpick so that no paint runs under them. With double-sided masking, settle the inner face and the interior shade of the frames first, and only then close the cabin and paint from the outside. Spray in thin coats at right angles to the surface; a heavy coat leaves a visible little step at the edge. Take the mask off at a shallow angle as soon as the paint is dry to the touch.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
