This is a set of self-adhesive masks from Art Scale meant for the plastic model of the twin-engine Douglas A-20G Havoc attack aircraft in 1:32 scale. The masks come pre-cut, so the laborious cutting of shapes out of masking tape with a knife falls away, and they are stuck straight onto the clear part, that is onto the glazing of the model. This set is the single-sided version according to the name; the double-sided version of the same type is sold as a separate item. The set is cut for one particular kit from HK Models and need not fit a model from another manufacturer.
The Douglas A-20 Havoc was an American twin-engine aircraft with a high-mounted wing, used during the Second World War as a light bomber and attack machine. The A-20G version differs from the earlier ones in a solid, unglazed nose with fixed gun armament in place of the glazed bombardier's position. The machine was built in large numbers and, besides the US Army Air Forces, other Allied users flew it as part of wartime deliveries. For a modeler it is interesting precisely for the contrast between the smooth nose and the broken-up glazing of the pilot's area and the dorsal turret, which are hard to paint without masks.
Wash and degrease the glazing before masking, as fingerprints under a mask will leave marks. Carry the mask with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, lay it down dry and only then press the edges with a toothpick or a blunt wooden stick, so that no paint runs under them. Spray in thin coats at right angles to the surface; a heavy coat builds a step at the edge which shows once the mask comes off. It pays to spray the color of the frames first and the top color only afterward. Take the mask off at a sharp angle as soon as the paint is dry to the touch, not several days later.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
