Flyhawk HMS Achilles 1939 1:700 captures the British light cruiser of the Leander class, made famous by the Battle of the River Plate. A finely executed kit in the popular naval scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit from the Flyhawk brand presents the British light cruiser HMS Achilles in her 1939 state in 1:700 scale. Among ship builders the manufacturer has built up a reputation for exceptionally fine moldings and a well thought out breakdown of the parts, so even a small model offers a respectable level of detail.
Achilles belonged to the Leander class and spent a large part of her career with the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy. She wrote herself in indelibly on December 13, 1939, when alongside the cruisers Ajax and Exeter she clashed in the Battle of the River Plate with the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee. The damaged German commerce raider then took refuge in Montevideo, where her own crew scuttled her; it was the first great Allied naval victory of the war.
Separate the small parts with a new blade directly above the mat, so that nothing flies off into the carpet. Lay out the shades of the deck and the superstructures before painting; a fine wash around the anchor chains and the gun turrets will give the ship a working look. The finished model stands out beautifully on a simple water surface made of acrylic gel.
The model is delivered as an unassembled and unpainted kit; glue, paints and further accessories have to be bought separately.
