This is an injection-molded plastic kit of a figure of a German pilot in 1:16 scale from Takom, released as a limited edition. The figure depicts the pilot of the experimental Horten Ho 229 jet flying wing in a high-altitude pressure suit; according to the manufacturer, clear parts for the helmet visor are available as well. It is not an aircraft model but a figure with which you complete a display case or a diorama. The model is assembled and painted like an ordinary figure kit.
The Horten Ho 229 was a German experimental jet aircraft of flying wing layout from the end of the Second World War, which remained at the prototype stage. Flying at great altitudes called for a pressure suit and a helmet, and that is exactly how the pilot of this figure is captured. The large 1:16 scale allows careful work on the detail of the suit and the gear.
Clean the parts up from the gates and sand the joints down finely. Mask the helmet visor and glue it so that it stays clear. Spray the figure over a primer and work the face and the suit up with shades and fine shading; complete the transitions of color with glazes. Oil paints are also suitable for smooth transitions on figures in this scale.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and an aircraft model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
