A miniature of the British twenty-liter fuel jerrycan in 1:16 scale. It is not a vehicle kit but a standalone accessory with which a finished model, a diorama or a display case with figures is fitted out. A can of this type was among the commonest items of equipment on British vehicles and is a rewarding detail in practically any scene.
The twenty-liter sheet-metal can with three handles established itself in British service as a replacement for the earlier thin-walled tins, which stood up badly to transport and handling. Its characteristic features are the pressed ribs on the sides, which give the container rigidity and leave room for the contents to expand, a closure operated by a lever and the three handles that allow two cans to be carried in one hand. British examples differ from those of other nations in the details of the closure, the shape of the handles and the markings.
Spray the accessory with a primer coat first, so that the further layers hold well. Choose the base shade according to the vehicle the can belongs to. Then a dark wash into the pressed recesses suits it, so that the relief stands out, and a dry brush in a lighter shade on the edges. In practice cans tended to be the most battered item of equipment, so scrapes, spill marks and a coating of dust look entirely natural on a model. For hanging it on a model it proves useful to make up brackets from wire or from photo-etch.
