The name denotes a German tank destroyer: on the chassis of the Panzer I light tank in the Ausf B version sits a 7.5 cm StuK 40 gun with a barrel 48 calibers long. The figure L/48 is easily mistaken for the caliber, but it means the length of the barrel expressed in multiples of the caliber; the caliber itself is 75 millimeters. The Panzer I chassis was one of the smallest German tracked vehicles of its time and a number of conversions were built on it in which the light base carried disproportionately heavier armament. It is a kit to be glued and painted in the large 1:16 scale. One meter of reality corresponds to 62.5 millimeters on the model, so even a small vehicle comes out noticeably bigger than in the usual 1:35 scale. The range of parts is given in the maker's instructions.
In a large scale every unevenness shows, so clean the parts carefully of excess material and of marks left by production and sand the joints. Assemble the running gear on a flat surface, so that the tracks sit on the wheels without twisting. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. Large surfaces are better sprayed, because brush strokes would be conspicuous on them, and apply the paint in thin coats.
The set will suit modelers who want a large model with room for detail and who do not mind a longer build or the space the finished vehicle takes up. Paints, thinner, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
