This large kit from Gecko Models lets you build the German Pz. Kpfw. II light tank in the Ausf. A, B or C form. The finished model measures around twenty-five centimeters. Besides injection-molded plastic the box contains a photo-etched fret, clear parts and decals for four different markings; the tracks are made up of individual links and the turret, the gun and the running gear stay movable.
The Panzer II was created as a stopgap until production of heavier types got under way, but it was precisely this tank that made up a large part of the German armored units in Poland and in France. It weighed around nine tons, had a crew of three and carried only a 20 mm automatic cannon. Against armored targets it was weak, but it served well for reconnaissance and for training crews.
A large scale is merciless toward unfinished work: every excess of glue and every unsanded seam will show. Finish and paint the inside of the fighting compartment before you close the hull. Line the track links up on a flat surface in advance and let them settle overnight so the assembly does not warp. Choose the shade according to the year you are building, as early machines wore a dark gray finish.
Glue and paints are needed for the build and are not in the box.
