An injection-molded plastic kit of the small Sd.Kfz. 2 half-track tractor, known as the Kettenkraftrad, in the large 1:16 scale. According to the name a driver figure is part of the package as well. The 1:16 scale means that a tiny machine grows to a size where the frame, the engine section and the run of the tracks all show, and where it pays to spend time on the detail.
The Kettenkraftrad was a small half-track tractor that combined a motorcycle-type front fork and handlebars with tracked running gear. It served to tow light loads and trailers across country where an ordinary motorcycle was not enough, and to carry small loads between units. It was steered both by turning the front wheel and by braking the tracks, which gave it a small turning radius. In design it is an unusual combination, and thanks to that the machine has long been a favorite among modelers.
In a large scale nothing can be hidden, so remove the parting lines on the frame and the fork carefully and sand the joints flat. Assemble the tracked running gear and let it cure on a level surface, so that the model stands. Paint the inner surfaces, the engine section and the saddle while they are easy to reach. Paint the driver figure separately and set it in place only once the machine is finished, or you will rub the paint off while handling it. The surface is rewarding for fine scuffs on the edges and for dust pigments on the tracks and the underside of the frame.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
