A set of pre-cut painting masks for building a model of the Grumman F-14B carrier fighter aircraft in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory for painting. The masks have a ready-made shape matching the parts of the model - peeling them off and sticking them on is all it takes, so there is no measuring out and cutting of tape directly on a transparent part.
The double-sided version is the main difference from the one-sided variant of the same aircraft, which the brand issues as well. The double-sided set holds masking for both the outer and the inner side of the glazing, so the frames stay distinct when looked at from inside the cockpit outward too. On the large canopy of the Tomcat, which is always in view on a finished model, that adds noticeably to the credibility. Check how many masks the package holds against the details on the packaging.
The F-14 is a twin-engined carrier fighter aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, a crew of two and the characteristic twin vertical tails. The F-14B version differs from the original A in its powerplant - it was given General Electric F110 engines, which removed the troubles of the original engines. It served with the US Navy right up to the withdrawal of the type.
First wash the glazing in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry. Stick the inner masks on and spray the interior color, then fit the part, mask it from outside and move on to the outer camouflage. Apply the paint thinly and take a mask off while the finish is still fresh. On large canopies it pays to go over the edges of the masks once more with a toothpick - the larger the area, the more likely the edge is to lift somewhere.
