A masking set for a model of the Grumman AF-2W Guardian carrier antisubmarine aircraft in 1:72 scale. An accessory for the painting stage of a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of painting masks for building a model of the carrier aircraft Grumman AF-2W Guardian in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor accessory parts - it is an aid for painting. The masks are pre-cut to the shape of the parts, so peeling them off and sticking them on is all it takes; the measuring out and cutting of tape by hand, in which mistakes are easily made in a small scale, is thereby done away with.
The name of this item gives only the type of aircraft and the scale. It is a masking set; which particular parts it covers and how many masks it holds are to be checked against the details on the packaging. On a propeller aircraft with a glazed cockpit the focus of the work tends to be precisely the canopy and the side windows.
The Guardian was a US Navy carrier aircraft from the turn of the 1940s and 1950s, meant for antisubmarine patrol. It was used in pairs: the search version AF-2W carried search radar in a large fairing under the fuselage, while the accompanying attack version worked with its data. It is one of the largest single-engined piston carrier aircraft of its day, so even in 1:72 scale it makes a respectable model.
First wash the glazing in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry. Seat a mask with tweezers exactly along the engraved frame and press the edges down with a toothpick, so that paint does not run under them. Spray the interior color first, then the outer shade. Take a mask off while the finish is fresh; with heavy layers, carefully score the edge first, so that the paint does not tear away from the line of the frame.
The package holds painting masks only. Neither the model nor the paints are part of it.
