An accessory for the painting stage of a model of the Spitfire Mk.I or Mk.II in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but a set of flexible, reusable plugs that block off the wheel bays, so that paint does not get into them while spraying. They take the place of improvised masking with paper, foam or modeling putty, which is hard to shape and often leaves marks once removed.
The plugs are pressed into an opening and hold by their shape - they need no glue, so they leave no sticky residue behind. Once the finish is complete they are taken out with tweezers and can be used again on the next build. The name does not state the particular number of pieces or the material, so they are not described here.
The Spitfire Mk.I and Mk.II are early versions of the British fighter aircraft with the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and the characteristic elliptical wing. They are among the most frequently built subjects of all, and their models in 1:48 scale appear from a number of manufacturers, so demand for painting aids for them is constant.
They go in only after the joints are filled and sanded, just before the base color is sprayed. A plug should sit flush with the surface of the wing - if it protrudes, it forms an edge on which the paint goes on unevenly. Once the last coat has dried, take it out carefully and paint the bays and the landing gear legs separately; it is precisely the detail of the landing gear that tends to catch the attention first on a finished model.
The package holds masking plugs only. Neither the model nor the paints are part of it.
