The He 111 H-8 Paravane NATIONAL INSIGNIA Kabuki Masks 1:48 set from New Ware - pre-cut masks for the ICM 48267 kit for spraying the national insignia instead of applying decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set does not deal with the cockpit glazing but with the national insignia - as the NATIONAL INSIGNIA designation says, the masks are cut so that the markings can be sprayed with paint. It is an accessory for the kit of the He 111 H-8 Paravane in 1:48 scale, not a stand-alone model.
A decal is a thin film lying on the surface. If the surface underneath is not perfectly smooth and glossy, a glossy rim appears around it, which modelers call silvering. Sprayed markings do not have that problem, because they are part of the finish: they take sanding, a wash and a stronger patina, and on large areas they create no step. You pay for it with more careful preparation - a mask has to be seated precisely and the layers sprayed really thin.
The surface underneath must be dry and smooth, ideally after light polishing. Carry a mask over with tweezers, lay it down and press it around the whole perimeter with a soft tool - an unpressed edge is the commonest cause of paint creeping under. Apply the paint in several very thin layers with drying in between. Take a mask off once dry with a pull at an angle and even the whole surface out with a final overcoat, which levels out the difference in sheen.
The set is cut for the ICM 48267 kit. The paints, the varnish and the model are not included in the package.
