Masking templates of kabuki paper in 1:48 scale for a model of the Republic F-84F Thunderstreak, in the ADVANCED version.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic F-84F is an American jet fighter-bomber of the 1950s. It came from reworking the earlier straight-wing F-84 with a swept wing and swept tail surfaces, and it was a heavy, robust machine built above all for carrying loads under the wings. Besides the US Air Force it served with a whole run of European allies, and in some countries it stayed in service into the 1970s. The manufacturer listed it under the name Thunderstreak; the name Thunderjet belongs to the earlier straight-wing series.
Masking templates cut from kabuki paper, that is from thin paper tape with an adhesive that holds on the surface and yet does not pull dried paint off. The ADVANCED designation distinguishes this version from the BASIC and EXPERT variants of the same aircraft; what exactly each level holds is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Apply the templates before spraying, onto a clean and degreased surface, and press them down above all at the edges, where paint could run under. Kabuki paper will take mild shaping, so it beds onto a domed canopy as well. Lay the paint on in thin coats and take a template off as soon as the coat has set, not once it has cured completely, when the film of paint breaks at the edge. Remove it slowly and at an angle to the side.
The set pays off for anyone who does not want to cut masking by hand, and especially where there are many small frames around the glazing. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
