The Do 217 J-1/2 BASIC kabuki masks 1:48 set from New Ware - pre-cut masks in kabuki paper for masking glazing while spraying a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pre-cut masking set for a model of the Do 217 J-1/2 in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a part of a model - the masks are stuck onto a clear part, taken off once the spraying is done, and nothing is left on the model but a sharp edge of paint. With New Ware the BASIC designation is a statement of the scope of the set; the manufacturer supplies more extensive levels for the same type, so when choosing, watch which level you want.
Kabuki is a thin Japanese paper tape with a fine adhesive. It is precisely this material that does most of the work with masks: it is pliable, so it can be pressed even into a slightly domed area of glazing, it cuts to a sharp edge and once taken off it usually leaves no adhesive residue. At the same time it holds firmly enough to keep paint from running under it, as long as you press a mask down thoroughly around its perimeter.
The glasshouse of a bomber is full of short frames converging at various angles. By hand that means dozens of small cuts directly on the clear part, where every slip of the knife shows as a permanent score. A pre-cut set does away with that work and at the same time guarantees that all the frames will be the same width.
The Do 217 J was a night fighter variant derived from the twin-engined Do 217 bomber. It differed from the bomber version chiefly in its nose, so a set of masks for this variant is not interchangeable with sets for other versions of the type.
The set is cut for a particular kit of the type in question - check that you have the matching model. The paints and the model are not included in the package.
