1:35 MG 42 Early Version (Pair) is a pair of resin models of the German MG 42 machine gun in its early production form, in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer GasPatch Models.

According to the name, this accessory set contains two pieces of the weapon in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of a vehicle or a figure but separate castings meant to be fitted into a diorama, onto a vehicle mount or beside a figure of the crew. The set captures the early production form of the weapon; the manufacturer makes the late version as a separate item, so you can choose the variant that matches the period you are building.
The MG 42 was a German machine gun of 7.92 mm caliber introduced during the Second World War. It was used both with a bipod in the light machine gun role and on a tripod and on vehicle mounts. During production it went through a series of shop modifications, which showed on the shape of the parts around the muzzle, on the barrel jacket and on small fittings; these are what the early and late forms are told apart by today. For the modeler that is a practical difference: a vehicle or a scene from a particular period calls for the matching version of the weapon.
The castings are small, so work with tweezers over a light surface. Wash the set in warm soapy water, otherwise the paint will not hold on the resin. Cut the casting block off with a new blade or a fine saw and true the pad up with a file. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) in the tiniest drops applied on a wire. In painting, a dark base with metal edges suggested over it with a dry brush works well; the polished surfaces of the weapon are exactly what gives a small part its sense of scale. Bring out the perforated barrel jacket with a dark wash that runs into the holes. Put the weapon in place only once the vehicle or the figure has been painted, so that it does not snap off during handling.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted, and glue and paints are not included in the package.
