The base decides the result

With the painting of a plastic model, a large part of the work is done by the preparation of the surface. Rid the parts of flash and the remains of gates, sand down the places that have been filled and degrease the surface, so that the paint holds the same way over the whole area. A base that has not been unified shows up at once under a thin coat, because smooth plastic behaves one way, sanded putty another and a photo-etched part another again.

That is exactly why it pays to unify the surface with a base layer on models. It will at the same time reveal scratches and imperfect joints before the paint covers them, and you can put them right at your leisure. When a build is made up of several materials at once, a unified base is practically a necessity. Remove the remains of the sanding dust with a soft brush, because even small grains show up under a thin coat as bumps. Then apply the paint in thin coats and mix the bottle thoroughly before use and during longer work as well.
