DRYBRUSH Set Rust Colors - a paint set for the dry brush

A set of acrylic, water-thinnable paints from the Spanish brand AMMO of Mig Jimenez. It is not a set for the base coat of a whole surface but a group of shades in the rust spectrum intended for the dry brush technique, with which modelers draw detail out of a model that is already painted.

Use

• Dry brush: load the paint onto a stiffer brush, wipe most of it off onto paper or a cloth and only then pass lightly over the edges and the raised details.
• Rust tones suit corroding sheet metal, trucks, industrial structures, wrecks, underbodies and the metal accessories of dioramas.
• Work in layers from the darker shade to the lighter one and save the light tone for the very end, as overdone drybrushing looks chalky.
• Acrylic is thinned with water or with an acrylic thinner of the same chemistry; wash the brushes out at once, as dried acrylic paint is hard to get out of the bristles.
• Let the coat dry properly before further weathering steps, or even it out with a matte clear.

Who the set is for

For modelers of vehicles, railway models and dioramas who want the rust tones together and do not want to mix them each time. The dry brush is at the same time the quickest way to give a model relief, so the set serves beginners starting out with weathering well too.

Rust tones have wider use in modeling than it seems. Besides corrosion itself they suit worn edges of sheet metal, scuffed handrails and steps, earthy grime on the underbody and also wood and rope, where a faint hint of rust and brown gives the surface age. That is exactly why the set is worth having even for a modeler who otherwise builds rust up with pigments: the dry brush is quicker and holds better under further layers of weathering.
