A pack of four spare blades with a curved edge from the AMMO of Mig Jimenez program, and in the larger size, as the word Large in the name states. It is a consumable part for a modeling knife, not a complete tool. Besides this larger curved blade, the Standard range also includes a smaller curved variant, a straight blade and the Ripper shape, so check which of them you need when ordering.

When to reach for the larger blade

A longer curve to the edge spreads the pressure over a larger area, so the blade does not dig in and the work goes more smoothly. It pays off anywhere you are removing material on bigger parts, that is on truck bodies, hulls, large covers and parts in the larger scales. A larger blade is also stiffer, so it flexes less when scraping and leaves a more even surface. Conversely, you will not reach cramped places between details with it; there the smaller variant is called for.

Use

• Use it on large surfaces and long mold seams, where a smooth stroke is needed.
• Hold the edge at a slight angle and take the material off in thin layers.
• For small details and cramped places, change to a smaller blade instead.
• Change the blade as soon as it starts pushing the material instead of removing it.
• Always work on a cutting mat and cut away from your body.

For modelers who build equipment and larger assemblies in the bigger scales, and for anyone who often cleans up sizeable parts. Spare blades are a consumable, so it is worth keeping a stock of them.
