Armory 1:18 wheels for the Harrier GR.7/GR.9/AV-8B with sagging tires are a large-format resin replacement for the wheels. In a big scale the tread pattern and the realistic sag of the tire both stand out.

The set from Armory replaces the wheels on large models of the second generation Harrier, that is the GR.7, GR.9 and AV-8B versions. In 1:18 the wheels are a conspicuous feature that everyone looks at when they peer into a display case; the resin casting therefore carries the tread and sidewall pattern in a level of detail that injection-molded plastic usually does not offer. The tire is cast with sag, so the model rests on a flat contact patch and does not look as though it hovers above the surface. This is an add-on to a kit, not a model in its own right.
The second generation Harrier came out of a redesign of the original British vertical and short takeoff type; a new wing and a modified airframe improved both the load it could carry and its range. The AV-8B, GR.7 and GR.9 versions carried out ground support and strike duties. The landing gear with main wheels on the fuselage centerline and outrigger wheels at the wingtips is typical of the type, and in a large scale it belongs to the details that decide how convincing the finished model is.
Large castings sit well in the hand, which makes careful preparation all the more important. Cut the casting block off with a fine-toothed saw and level the face on sandpaper laid on a board, so that the cut comes out flat. Wash the parts in warm water with dish soap and let them dry, then apply primer. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue or with epoxy; on larger parts epoxy gives more time to get the alignment right. Paint the tire dark gray with a flat surface and shift the shade on the sidewall slightly away from the tread, which reads convincingly in a large scale. Bring out the tread with a dark wash and a dry brush, and put fine dust on the contact patch with pigment. Sand resin wet and with your airways protected.
This is an add-on to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The set is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
