A plastic kit of the Spitfire HF Mk.VII in 1:72 scale, released with the Grey camo suffix, that is with a gray camouflage scheme.
Responsibility details are not available.
The HF Mk.VII version came about so that the Spitfire would keep the upper hand at high altitude as well. It received a pressurized cockpit, a wing with extended pointed tips, a four-blade propeller and a retractable tail wheel. It was powered by the twelve-cylinder V Merlin engine with a two-stage supercharger. Machines in a gray camouflage finish look unusual beside the familiar green and brown camouflage and are impossible to miss in a display case.
A plastic kit of the model in 1:72 scale released with the Grey camo suffix. Which particular machines and which shades of gray the schemes offered cover is given in the instructions enclosed in the package, as is the extent of the parts and the decals.
A gray finish is unforgiving to the surface, so fill and sand the joints of the fuselage halves and the wing roots more carefully than with a busier scheme. It pays to unify the base with a primer and only then spray the shades themselves, otherwise unevenly sanded spots will show through. Apply the paint in thin coats and spray the boundaries between shades from a short distance so that the transition stays soft. Paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage. Apply the decals over a gloss varnish and unify the finished model at the end with a matte or semi-matte varnish.
The kit suits modelers who already have Spitfires in their collection and want a less usual high-altitude version in a gray finish. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; paints, glue and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
