What the base is for

A base gives a finished model a surface and the setting it belongs in. The Formula 1 pit stop motif adds to a car a piece of the ground on which most of a team's work during a race takes place. The sheet is of acrylic 3 mm thick, measures 180 x 357 mm and weighs 210 g, so it is stiff enough and does not bend while being handled.

Where it fits

1:20 scale is the most common one for Formula 1 car models, so such a car fits onto the sheet with room to spare at the sides. You will use the base in a cabinet as well as for photography, where it rids a shot of a distracting background and gives it a uniform surface. Several sheets of the same range side by side give a collection a common look.

Care and handling

Acrylic is easily scratched, so wipe the surface with a soft cloth and water with a drop of detergent, never dry and never with a coarse fabric. Do not use alcohol-based cleaners or thinners, as they can dull the surface or cause hairline cracks in it. A model only needs to be set down on the base; gluing it is not necessary.
