3D decals for the cockpit of the F-35A Lightning II in 1:72 scale for the Hasegawa kit — color relief printing of the large-area display and the side consoles.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of three-dimensional decals for the interior of a plastic model of the F-35A Lightning II in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory: besides printed color the decals also carry a layer of firm relief, and they are applied directly onto the plastic cockpit parts. The set is cut for the Hasegawa kit — several variants of the same set exist for different kits, and without that detail they could not be told apart.
The Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II is a single-seat fifth-generation aircraft in the form for conventional takeoff and landing, that is the version intended for air forces. The cockpit is unusual from a modeling point of view: the classic grouped instruments have been replaced by a single large-area touchscreen across the whole width of the panel. Such a surface is exceptionally difficult to paint, and color printing with relief is the natural solution for it — the image on the display and the framing of the panels come about in one step.
Spray the cockpit parts with the base interior color and let them dry thoroughly. Cut the decal out close to the edge, soak it briefly in lukewarm water and transfer it with tweezers; in 1:72 scale the areas are very small, so good light and a magnifier help. The relief layer is thicker than on an ordinary decal — let it settle slowly into the shape of the part and press it gently with a cotton swab. Dose the softener drop by drop; an excess would ripple the relief. Then leave the display surface rather semi-gloss, as a matte coat would take away the impression of a lit screen.
