This is neither a kit nor a spare part but an aid to painting. The masks are cut in advance to the shape of the surfaces that are to stay unpainted after spraying, and they are cut for one particular model of the vehicle in 1:35 scale. You stick them on, spray the vehicle and, once they are removed, a clean surface with a sharp frame is left under the mask.

Why it pays off with this vehicle

A three-axle truck with a closed box body has glazing in two groups at once: a large windshield and the side windows of the cab, plus the windows of the box body. That means several dozen straight edges in a small area, and every tremble of the hand while outlining with a brush shows on the finished model.

Use

• First wash the clear parts in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and let them dry; a mask will not hold on a greasy surface.
• Lift the mask off the sheet with pointed tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, and do not touch the adhesive side with your fingers.
• Press the edges down with a wooden toothpick, above all in the corners, as that is where paint most often creeps under.
• Spray at a right angle and in several thin coats; one heavy coat creates a noticeable step at the edge.
• Take the mask off as soon as the paint is tacky and not yet fully cured; later it peels off less easily.
