A painting mask for a model of the Chinese KJ-500 early warning aircraft in 1:144 scale, cut for the Hobby Boss kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The KJ-500 is a Chinese airborne early warning and control aircraft (AEW&C) derived from the Shaanxi Y-9 transport. Above the fuselage it carries a fixed disc-shaped antenna radome which, unlike the older machines of this class, does not rotate. The aircraft is used to watch the airspace and to direct friendly aircraft, and it belongs to the types that appear only rarely among models.
A painting mask for a build of the KJ-500 in 1:144 scale. The parts of the mask are cut to the shapes of one particular kit, so there is no tedious trimming with tape and the frames of the glazing come out even. Which surfaces the mask covers is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Stick the mask onto a clean and degreased surface before spraying, never onto finished paint. Press the edges down carefully, otherwise paint runs under them and the edge frays. Spray in thin coats and let each one dry; a heavy coat builds a ridge at the edge of the mask that shows once it is lifted off. Take the mask off as soon as possible after the paint has dried, with tweezers and at a shallow angle to the surface, so that it does not pull the paint with it.
For modelers who are building the KJ-500 in 1:144 scale and do not want to lose time masking small windows by hand. In this scale the glazing is so small that a ready-made mask saves more work than it does on larger models.
The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
