A package of four replacement blades with a curved edge from the modeling program of AMMO of Mig Jimenez. You are not buying a complete knife but a consumable part that is fitted into a knife and replaced once it goes blunt. The number of pieces in the package is given directly in the name.

Why a curved blade

A straight blade cuts with a point, while a curved one cuts with the whole arc of the edge. During a pull the engagement therefore changes gradually and the blade slides over the surface instead of biting into it. That is an advantage anywhere the material is not separated but removed in thin layers, which means mainly when scraping off mold seams left by the tooling and the remains of sprue gates after a part has been nipped off the runner. A curved edge lets you travel over the rounded surface of a fuselage or a load bed without the risk that the tip digs in and leaves a groove you then have to sand out.

Use

• Hold the blade at a slight angle to the surface and take the material off in thin layers rather than in one deep pass.
• When scraping off mold seams, guide the pass across the seam, not along it.
• Change the blade as soon as it stops biting and starts pushing the material ahead of it. A blunt blade is more dangerous than a sharp one, because it needs more pressure.
• Work on a cutting mat and never toward the fingers holding the part.
• Do not use the blade as a lever; thin hardened material snaps.
