Modeling pliers with long narrow jaws, an overall length of six inches, that is roughly fifteen centimeters. They serve for gripping and bending small parts in places fingers cannot reach.

Pliers with a long narrow jaw are one of the most used tools on a modeling bench. They will hold a part too small to be held in the fingers, reach into the depth of a fuselage or an engine bay and hold bent wire exactly in position until the glue sets. They also come into their own when setting small parts into a model that is already built, where tweezers would not have enough strength.
The length of the tool is six inches, which corresponds to roughly fifteen centimeters. The jaws are long and tapered to a point, so they reach even into a narrow gap while holding the part along their whole length rather than only at the tip. For cutting wire and nipping parts off the sprue use sprue nippers, as thin jaws are not suited to it and can be damaged by it.
When bending wire or a photo-etched part, press steadily and rather in several goes than in one strong squeeze. The knurled surface of the jaws leaves a print on soft metals and plastic, so put a strip of paper or a piece of tape between the jaw and a visible part. After work, free the pliers of dust and sanding slurry and store them closed so that the tips do not blunt against your other tools. Check the jaws against the light from time to time: as soon as they stop meeting along their whole length, the tool loses its sure grip on the smallest parts and suits only heavier work.
They suit any building outfit, from plastic kits through photo-etch to small repairs of finished models. Spare jaws and other tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
