Excel Smooth Jaw Long Nose Pliers are long needle nose pliers with smooth jaws. They leave no print, so they suit photo-etched parts, clear plastic and every surface that will stay visible.
Responsibility details are not available.
A smooth jaw is the opposite compromise from a serrated one: it holds a little less, but it leaves no mark behind. For a modeler that matters more than it might seem, because most of the places you reach with pliers end up painted and visible. Serration prints into thin photo-etch, into soft metal and into plastic, and the print is not hidden by a coat of finish.
Work with photo-etch
A photo-etched part almost never stays as flat as it came off the fret. Smooth jaws can be used to straighten it, to hold a strip during a bend over an edge and to guide a small part into a place tweezers cannot hit and fingers will not enter. They are equally suited to gripping a clear part, a chromed section or a finished painted piece, where any mark would mean repainting.
Because a smooth jaw does not grip blindly, count on a part slipping with slippery round wire or with a firmly pressed-in axle. For such work reach for the serrated variant. Also do not press the pliers hard into plastic parts: a smooth jaw leaves no teeth behind, but it will leave a shiny patch if squeezed too hard. And as with every slim nose, prying bends it.
Keep the jaws clean, as residue of glue on them prints just like serration. The tool is not intended for prying.
