1:144 Airbus A300 Landing Flaps is a LACI set of landing flaps for a model of the wide-body Airbus A300 in 1:144 scale. It is not a kit but an add-on for a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This LACI set lets you build a model of the Airbus A300 airliner in 1:144 scale with the high-lift devices extended, the way the aircraft looks on final approach. It is not an aircraft model but an add-on for a plastic kit: the matching section of the wing trailing edge is cut away from the plastic part and replaced by the parts from the set. The result is a model that stands in the display case in landing configuration instead of with the clean wing it has in flight.
The Airbus A300 was the first airliner of the European Airbus consortium and at the same time the first wide-body twin-engine airliner in the world. It entered service in 1974 and opened the way to the present layout of long-haul routes, on which twin-engine aircraft replaced three- and four-engine types. The A300 wing carries large double-slotted flaps that travel far back and down on landing. It is exactly this high-lift system that gives the model a completely different silhouette than the retracted wing, and it belongs among the details that even a casual viewer notices.
Mark the cut on the plastic wing precisely first and only then start cutting, preferably in two passes with a margin to the line. Level the cut surface with a file and dry-fit the parts until they sit without pressure. Symmetry is the key point: check both wing halves against each other from the front and from above, so that the flaps sit at the same angle. Bond the small parts with super glue in small drops. The extended flaps expose surfaces that are never painted on a retracted wing, so plan the painting sequence in advance and spray the lower surfaces of the flaps before you fix them permanently.
