Pratt & Whitney PW4168 engines with the reverser open for the Airbus A330 in 1:144 scale make up an add-on set for a model captured while braking after touchdown.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set replaces the engine nacelles on a model of the Airbus A330 and shows them with the thrust reverser in the open position. It is not an aircraft kit, and without a basic model there is no use for the set. An open reverser is a rewarding detail: it exposes the cascade vanes and the inner surfaces that are invisible on a closed nacelle, and it gives the model a story, not just a shape.
The PW4168 belongs to the PW4000 family and is the large-fan variant designed for the Airbus A330. The PW4000 family came about in three size groups and each one aims at a different class of aircraft, so the designation with a number is not cosmetics but really marks a different engine. On these engines the thrust reverser works through a sliding rear section of the nacelle that uncovers the cascades and turns the airflow forward; crews use it mainly on shorter and slippery runways.
Painting matters more here than the gluing itself. The inside of the reverser is usually in a different shade than the outer finish and it is visible, so spray it while the part is still loose in your hand. Do the metal surfaces on a smooth, well sanded base, because metallic paint shows every scratch from the abrasive paper mercilessly. The pigment in metallic paints settles to the bottom, so stir the paint thoroughly and spray it last, because it is hard to mask and to overspray. Only then join the assembly and seat it on the pylon.
