Rolls-Royce RB211-22 engines of the late version for the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar in 1:144 scale make up an add-on set of replacement nacelles for a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains replacement engine nacelles and is intended to be fitted to a finished TriStar model. It is not an aircraft kit. The choice between the early and the late version is no formality: on a type that flew for decades the installation of the powerplant changed gradually, and the model gets the right look only when the version matches the particular machine and the period you are building.
The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar came about as a competitor to the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and was tied to the Rolls-Royce RB211 engine from the start. The three-shaft layout of the engine was a novelty at the time and its development became known for how demanding it was. Two engines are carried by pylons under the wing, the third is built into the rear fuselage, and for the modeler that means the replacement nacelles deal with the pair under the wing, while the tail stays as the kit has it.
Watch out for the landing gear bay and the surrounding surfaces, which on airliners are usually in a different shade than the fuselage and which you can still reach while fitting the nacelles. Spray them before you close the model up, then mask them with damp cotton wool or a soft compound, so that no further paint settles on them. Seat the nacelles themselves at intervals and check them from the front against each other; asymmetrical engines are the most common mistake, and one you cannot forgive yourself on a finished model.
