1:72 Nakajima J1N1 Gekko national insignia is a set of pre-cut masks for the national insignia, thanks to which the markings are sprayed with paint instead of a decal being applied. 1:72 scale, made by Dead Design.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory for building a model, not a kit. With this set the national insignia are not applied as decals but sprayed with paint through a mask. The result therefore has no carrier film, silvering cannot appear at the edges and the marking stays part of the finish even after varnishing and weathering. It is appreciated above all by modelers who work with matte or rougher surfaces, where a decal settles worst.
The Nakajima J1N1 Gekko was a twin-engine machine of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. It was created as a long-range escort and reconnaissance aircraft, but it made its name only in the role of a night fighter, when it received upward-slanting armament for attacking heavy bombers from below. The Allies assigned it the code name Irving. The type is among the characteristic Japanese machines of the end of the war and in 1:72 scale it is a rewarding subject thanks to its large span and clean shapes.
The area under the insignia must be smooth, clean and degreased, otherwise the paint creeps under. Press the mask down and run a finger around its whole perimeter. If the insignia is to lie on a dark finish, spray white or light gray under it first, so that the color covers. Spray in thin coats perpendicular to the surface, not at an angle under the edge. Lift the mask off shortly after it has dried and unify the finished marking with its surroundings by varnishing at the end.
