A set from the Czech brand Omask brings inserts made of flexible foam shaped to fit the wheel bays of a model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 E in 1:72 scale. A great advantage is that the set is designed for two kit manufacturers at once — Special Hobby and Eduard. One purchase therefore covers Emils from both brands, which suits anyone with more than one 109 under construction. The package does not include a model — it is purely a masking accessory.
The interior of a wheel bay differs in color from the aircraft's outer finish and is usually in an interior shade. If overspray from the camouflage gets in there while spraying, it is a real problem: the bay is deep, full of protrusions, and fixing it afterward is nearly impossible — neither a brush nor an airbrush can reasonably reach inside. In 1:72 scale the whole problem is even worse, since the space is tiny. The plug slots into the bay, comes out after spraying, and that's it.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 E, nicknamed Emil, was the Luftwaffe's principal fighter during the Battle of Britain. It was a fast, strong-climbing aircraft with a V-shaped engine that in 1940 formed the backbone of the German fighter force and was the direct opponent of the British Spitfire and Hurricane.
