About product

1:35 Late M4 Sherman mantlet with the M3 gun (PANZER ART)

A replacement part from the Polish maker PANZER ART for models of the M4 Sherman medium tank with the seventy-five-millimeter M3 gun. The set matches the late version of the gun mantlet and is cut for the kits from the Tasca and Asuka brands, which share the same molds. It is not a tank model but a replacement part for a build.

The real subject

The M3 gun of 75 millimeters caliber was the standard armament of the Sherman for most of its service. It was a versatile gun able to fire both high-explosive and armor-piercing ammunition, which made it a good weapon for infantry support. The late version of the mantlet differs from the early one in the shape and width of the casting, which covers the turret front better. It is precisely by the mantlet that the individual production batches of the Sherman can be told apart.

Building and painting tips

Wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry, otherwise mold release agent will stay on the surface and the paint will peel. Cut the casting block off and level the area with a file, and protect your airways when sanding resin. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Once glued, check that the barrel sits level, ideally against the edge of a table. Give the part a coat of primer before painting.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of American Second World War equipment in 1:35
  • Owners of Sherman kits from the Tasca and Asuka brands
  • Modelers who want a more accurate mantlet shape than the plastic part
  • More experienced modelers used to working with resin

FAQ

It is not. This is a replacement part, and the kit has to be bought separately.

The manufacturer makes it for the Tasca and Asuka molds. On another kit you have to reckon on reworking it.

Super glue; cement for polystyrene does not hold on resin.

The late mantlet is heavier and differently shaped, and it covers the turret front better. The production batches of the tank are told apart by it.
