An add-on set of photo-etched parts from thin metal sheet for a model of the Honda NSX racing car in the colors of the ARTA team from the 2005 season, in 1:24 scale. The package contains metal parts, not plastic components of the car, so it is intended for modelers who already have the matching kit and want to take it to a higher level of detail. Photo-etched sheet is used where a plastic part would have to be thicker than the scale calls for.
It is not necessary to replace everything the set offers. The effect shows most on the parts that are visible close up on the finished model and at the same time are meant to be thin or pierced. On parts hidden under the hood or covered by another part of the body, on the other hand, it is worth considering whether a procedure that is more complicated to work with in metal is worth it at all. The sensible thing is to go through the instructions before the build starts and to decide in advance, because some photo-etched parts are fitted at a moment when it is already too late to take finished subassemblies apart.
Degrease the metal before painting, best with alcohol, and spray a primer for metal, otherwise the paint will rub off during handling. Lay the paint on in thin coats, as a heavy coat on a fine mesh will fill the openings and the effect will be lost. Parts that are to stay with a metal look only need careful polishing and protecting from fingerprints. During fitting it helps to use a small amount of super glue applied with a toothpick, and tweezers with flat jaws, as round jaws easily shoot a part away. Line the smaller parts up beforehand on a piece of adhesive tape with the sticky side up, otherwise they get lost during the work.
This is an add-on set for building a model, not a model or a kit of the car. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
