A set of photo-etched parts for a model of the racing BMW 320si E90 in the rendition for the world touring car championship, 1:24 scale. Thin metal where plastic is too thick.
Responsibility details are not available.
The BMW 320si arose as a racing touring car derived from the 3 Series sedan of the E90 generation. Against the production version it received widened fenders, a lowered chassis and a bare interior with a roll cage. It is driven by an inline four of two liters and the power goes to the rear wheels, which makes the car a more sensitive tool in corners than those of rivals with front-wheel drive. The rendition in the name is tied to the round of the world touring car championship at the Brands Hatch circuit in 2008.
Photo-etched parts are cut out of thin metal sheet, so they have a thickness that injection-molded plastic cannot reach. That is exactly why they are used wherever the material on a model is meant to look thin. The parts are held in the fret by small tabs and are separated before the build.
Cut the tabs through with a sharp blade on a hard base; never break them out, otherwise the part will bend. Make the folds over the edge of a photo-etch bender or between two blades in one movement, because repeated bending tires the metal and the part will crack. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer meant for metal, otherwise you will peel the finish off during handling. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minute amount, best with a pin.
For modelers of racing touring cars who want to take a model beyond the limit of what a kit offers. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
