This is one of the more extensive accessories for an engine bay. It is not a kit of a car but a set of parts with which a production engine is rounded out with elements of forced induction and with small machinery that a basic box as a rule does not hold. It aims at a build of a modified car with an open hood, where the engine is to be the main subject. The shapes of the parts grow out of the Tamiya kit 24361; that is not in the package.
The Toyota GR86 is a rear-wheel-drive coupe with a flat four-cylinder set low in the front of the car. From the factory it runs naturally aspirated, so a turbocharger belongs among the typical changes to its engine on the tuning scene. The set carries this world over into scale: besides the turbocharger itself, the build turns around the intake and exhaust tracts and around the lines under the hood.
First lay the engine bay out dry, because forced induction takes up room that the production plastic does not reckon with. Paint the pipes and the reservoirs separately and join them only once they are dry, otherwise the edges are easily smudged. The metal surfaces stand out over a dark base, while the aluminum shades do so over a light one. Keep trying to close the hood as you go, so that the finished build sits down.
