The subject is the Honda RA272 single-seater, with which the marque raced in the last season of the formula with its one and a half liter capacity limit. The model belongs among single-seaters in 1:24 scale and represents one of the historically most important Japanese racing cars of all.
Honda entered the Formula 1 world championship in 1964 as a complete newcomer that, besides, built both its chassis and its engine itself, which was an exception among the teams of the time. The RA272 of 1965 was powered by a transversely mounted twelve-cylinder engine that revved extremely high and was among the most powerful units in its class. The high point of the season was the Mexican Grand Prix, which the RA272 won. It was the first win by a Japanese constructor in the world championship and at the same time the last race of that capacity era. The cigar-shaped body, the open wheels and the striking Japanese markings make the RA272 one of the most recognizable single-seaters of the 1960s.
A single-seater with no enclosed bodywork expects everything to be on show, so give time to the frame, the wheel suspension and the exhaust system. Set the metal surfaces apart with several shades: bright metal on the struts, heat-discolored on the exhaust headers, matte black on the brackets. Lay the white finish of the body over a light primer in thin coats and let it cure properly before you seat the decals. Small lines and rods give the engine life, and tweezers and good light help with the work.
