The purple coupe from the first part

The Nissan 240SX was the North American trade name of a coupe that in Japan was sold under the name Silvia. The S14 generation was built between 1993 and 1998; against the previous S13 it received a wider body and a longer wheelbase, and for the American market it was powered by the 2.4-liter KA24DE four-cylinder with around 155 horsepower. The Japanese version had the turbocharged two-liter SR20DET unit instead, and the difference between the two versions still divides collectors today.

The real subject

The car of the character Letty Ortiz is based on the 1997 model year. The filmmakers gave it saturated purple paint with striking graphics, widened fender flares, sill extensions and a rear wing. Among viewers it became one of the most easily recognized cars of the whole series about street racing and demand for a scale version of it continues to this day.

The scope of the set

This is an extensive conversion as a whole, not a small improvement to a single area. The volume of parts matches that: the shape of the exterior changes and the fittings of the cabin are added to. The castings are made in small batches, so it is right to expect hand preparation – take off the lugs, sand the parting lines and put the parts together dry first.

Who it is for

The builder should have tried working with resin and not be afraid of taking a knife to a plastic body. The reward is a model that differs from the production coupe at first glance, even from several steps away. Putting it together dry is worth repeating after every adjustment of a mating surface.
