A masking set from MH models in 1:48 scale for a model of the British carrier aircraft Fairey Fulmar in the Mk.I and Mk.II versions. The contents are templates for covering the glazing, not parts of the model. The masks are stuck onto the clear part, the surroundings are masked off and the frames of the cockpit are sprayed together with the rest of the airframe. On the Fulmar, which has a long two-seat canopy with a large number of frames, the set saves a substantial part of the work.
The Fairey Fulmar was a British two-seat carrier fighter of the Fleet Air Arm powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. The second crew member handled navigation and the radio, which explains the elongated fuselage and the long glazing above both seats. The Mk.II version received a more powerful variant of the Merlin and further small changes. The machine was not a match in performance for the land-based fighters of its day, but thanks to its range and endurance it did a great deal of work over the sea.
Wash and degrease the clear part. Transfer the individual templates with tweezers, seat them from a corner of the frame and press them down with a soft tool along the whole length of the edge - on a long canopy it is easy to leave the middle not pressed home, and the paint then bleeds underneath. Cover the inside with foam or masking putty. Spray the shade of the interior first, then the camouflage, always in thin coats. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried with the tip of a scalpel, so that the edge of the finish is not torn away. If a template buckles on a more complicated shape, trim it on the part itself with a new blade along the real outline of the frame.
This is a masking set, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
