About product

The Nissan Gloria 430 in 1:24 scale from Aoshima

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Nissan Gloria sedan of the 430 series in 1:24 scale from the Japanese company Aoshima. The item belongs to the Grand Champion range, grachan for short, which captures Japanese cars in a period street modification. The model therefore carries front, side and rear aerodynamic parts, conspicuous mirrors and deep chrome wheels with wide tires. The body and the chassis are molded in dark plastic, but even so the model is built by gluing and is painted.

The real subject

The 430 series replaced the previous 330 series in 1979 and was built until the beginning of the 1980s. The Gloria was the sister model of the Nissan Cedric, with which it shared the body and the engineering, and it was offered as a sedan as well as a four-door hardtop. It was a classic layout with the engine at the front and rear-wheel drive, which made these cars a popular basis for later modifications. In the kaido racer style the body was lowered to the ground and supplemented with wide fender flares, an aerodynamic kit and wheels with a marked offset. It is exactly this form that the kit reproduces.

Building and painting tips

Try fitting the aerodynamic parts dry first, check the mating surfaces and fill any gaps with putty. Dark plastic carries more saturated shades well, but filler primer still pays off, as it unifies the surface after sanding. Spray the body in several thin coats and finish with gloss varnish, which can be polished to depth once it has cured. The chrome wheels and trim only need careful masking, or they can be supplemented with polished silver paint. Before gluing, check the wide tires against the wheel arches and if necessary adjust the ride height.

Who the model is for

  • Fans of the Japanese car scene of the 1970s and 1980s
  • Modelers with an interest in the kaido racer and grachan style
  • Collectors of large Japanese sedans in 1:24 scale
  • Builders looking for a striking model for a display case

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes. Dark plastic makes covering with saturated shades easier, but a quality result calls for a primer, paint and gloss varnish. It is not a pre-painted model.

The 430 series replaced the older 330 series in 1979. It has a more angular body and newer engineering, but both generations shared the position of a large Japanese sedan of the upper class.

A modified version. The model belongs to the Grand Champion range, so it contains aerodynamic parts and wheels typical of the Japanese street scene, not of the factory version.

Ordinary thin cement for polystyrene applied with a brush is enough. For the transparent parts use a cement intended for clear plastic, so that they do not fog.
