Combining a multi-spoke rim with a tire in the usual profile aims at builds that are meant to come across as a series car with better equipment, not as a competition special. It is in exactly this that the variant differs from the form intended for a deep tuck into the arch, where the side of the rubber is deliberately pulled over.
We recommend starting from the rear axle, where any inaccuracy shows up less, and only then moving to the front. Leave both the rim and the rubber separate until the paint has dried; joining them beforehand means masking a narrow transition, which will never come off as cleanly as two parts painted on their own.
On a wheel of this diameter it is visible how far from the lip the face ends. Try the seating dry and compare the view from the front with a photograph of the subject: a wheel tucked in too far comes across as if the car lacked track, while one pushed out too far looks like an unfinished modification. A difference of a few tenths of a millimeter on the pin changes the whole impression here.
Once dry, bring out the lettering on the side of the rubber with a thinned light paint applied over the raised edges and wipe the excess away. Unify the tread with a dark pigment, so that a new wheel does not come across as fresher than the rest of the chassis. Finally, stand the model on glass and look it over from the side. If one of the wheels does not reach the surface, a careful turn of the pin will put that right while the glue has yet to harden completely. A car that rocks in a display case unfortunately draws attention sooner than the best managed paint.
